The butterfly turn is very much like the breaststroke turn (see Chapter 9). Where it differs comes after the push off.
Approach the wall with your head low and your body stretched out in a streamlined position. Then touch the wall with both hands simultaneously. As soon as you touch the wall, drop one arm. Tilt your upper body away from the wall, allowing your momentum to carry your feet to the wall, preparing them for the push off. Plant your feet sideways on the wall, and take a breath.
With your body still tilted sideways, release contact with your arm and submerge your head. Push hard off the wall, and immediately extend your body into a streamlined position. Take two dolphin kicks, then bring your arms through the underwater pull (Figure 10.6). Surface and start stroking.
