BREASTSTROKE IS THE enigmatic stroke. Regarded by novices as the easiest stroke, it is acknowledged by experts to be the most difficult. The breaststroke is used for relaxation by casual swimmers, but when swum competitively, it burns more calories than any other stroke, with the possible exception of the butterfly.
