1.5 Understanding Drives, Volumes, Optical Discs, Folders, and Files

     As you use your MacBook Air, you work with data. Underlying all this data is the need to store and organize it. This section describes the major items that OS X uses for storing and organizing data. These items include drives, volumes, discs, folders, and files. The Finder manages these items, and you access them directly from the desktop or from within applications. You can use different types of devices for different purposes. For example, you can use an external hard drive to back up the data stored on your MacBook Air.
